Frequently asked questions

A traction battery supplies energy for propulsion or the operation of mobile equipment. It must suit the equipment’s operating duty and repeated discharge-and-recharge requirements.

Traction describes the application; deep-cycle describes a battery’s intended cycling duty. Many traction applications use deep-cycle batteries, but suitability depends on the individual model and equipment requirements.

Sometimes, provided its specifications meet each equipment manufacturer’s requirements. Matching voltage and Ah capacity alone does not establish compatibility.

Confirm the equipment’s system voltage, battery quantity, capacity, construction, dimensions, weight, terminals and charger compatibility. Include daily workload and the available charging schedule.

Maintenance requirements depend on battery construction. Follow the selected model’s instructions. A maintenance-free designation does not remove the need for correct charging and periodic inspection.

Runtime depends on stored capacity, equipment demand, load, battery condition and temperature. Depth of discharge, charging, maintenance and storage practices also affect service life.

Use a battery approved for the equipment’s operating duty. A similar voltage and Ah rating does not make a starting or standby battery suitable for repeated traction use.

Provide the equipment make and model, application, existing battery label, number of batteries per machine, charger details, required purchase quantity and delivery destination.
